We love chickens so much that we’re going to raise and sell them. We’re starting out with three different breeds. We got two of the three breeds in the mail today… Buff Orpington and Ameraucana. BUFF ORPINGTON: their temperament is calm and friendly, they are often called the “pet” chicken. They like to be scratched, held, and carried; they like to sit in your lap while you read a book (preferably aloud so they can hear you); they never peck at you unless they are trying to get your attention (so that you will scratch, hold, carry, or read to them!…lol). They are excellent and dependable layers, they lay large brown eggs. They are a dual purpose breed, used for egg laying and meat production.
AMERAUCANA: They are exceptional egg layers. They are known for laying eggs in shades of blue and green. They have a muff and a beard, their legs are slate blue. They are a fun and docile breed. We will also raise Dominique a.k.a. Dominicker, they were not available right now so once the chicks we got today are out of the brooder house, the Dominiques will be ready to order. They are considered America’s oldest breed of chicken. They tend to be calm, personable birds. The hens are known to be good mothers. This breed matures quickly which means faster egg production. They lay brown eggs. They are a dual purpose breed, used for egg laying and meat production. We have incubators and eventually we plan on hatching our own eggs and rising them but for now we’ll pick up our chicks at the post office. :-) I think this means WE’RE OFFICIALLY FARMERS!!!! hehehe.
